Flint began to draw away from the field, extending his lead to a sizeable advantage over Lower, while Cox, Larrison, and Blonde lined up behind him. The extreme pace around the high-banked speedway took it’s toll by lap 18 as Blonde exited the event with problems, moving series point leader, Troy DeCaire into fifth place, just in front of fast qualifier and new world record holder Jeff Bloom, who advanced from his tenth starting spot to sixth. With Flint comfortably out front, a bobble by Lower in turn three on lap 26 caused Cox to take evasive action and the move sent his machine looping around to collect the turn four wall, drawing a caution flag that erased Flint’s huge advantage. As racing resumed, Flint maintained his lead while Larrison moved into second place and began to work his way around the lapped machines between himself and the leader.
With Larrison beginning to track down Flint for the lead, Lower, DeCaire, and Bloom staged a dicey battle for third with the three racing tightly together as they also worked their way around lapped traffic. Larrison caught Flint by lap 40 and made the move to the front on lap 45 as he edged his way to the inside of Flint to take the top spot. Bloom also had his car working on the inside and he was able to work his way by both DeCaire and Lower for third place as they approached the lapped machine of Jim Swain down the backstretch. While side by side, Bloom and Swain tangled momentarily which sent Swain’s mount spiraling down the backstretch and into the fence in turn three, producing the caution flag on lap 50. Larrison was up to the challenge of the final ten lap sprint to the checkered flag and he held off Flint to score the victory while Bloom crossed the finish line in third place despite some wing damage from the earlier incident. DeCaire finished in the fourth position and Lower was fifth.
Alex Prunty won the 20-lap Slinger Bee feature that got off to a rocky start as contact within the field on lap one, sent the car of Brandon Tackes hard into the soft wall barrier at the turn two pit exit. Braison Bennett finished second while Nick Wagner, Carl Benn, and Erik Long completed the top five.
Mike Larrison in the #6 Tru Fuel 50 sponsored winged sprint won the inaugural Must See Racing Slinger 60 at the high banks of Slinger Speedway.
Larrison charged through the field to take his first MSRXSS victory. "I could put the Tru Fuel 50 car wherever I needed to all night - the car was perfect," said a jubilant Larrison. |
